About this place
Some diners have praised the deep shellfish flavour in the chawanmushi. At Abusan, shellfish takes the lead in dishes such as shellfish-stock chawanmushi (700 yen), steamed clams with sake (1,400 yen) and large clams grilled with fresh seaweed (1,600 yen). To sample a few flavours one dish at a time, consider the assortment of sweet-and-savoury shellfish, shellfish namerō and shellfish chanja (650 yen), or the “bakudan” (1,100 yen): shellfish, natto, Japanese yam and vegetables wrapped in nori.
For a fuller shellfish spread, choose an assortment of live shellfish in 3 varieties (3,300 yen) or 5 varieties (5,800 yen). One diner particularly enjoyed the surf clam grilled with shiokara (1,600 yen), a tempting option for a different flavour profile. To finish, there is shellfish-stock ochazuke (850 yen) or shellfish-stock risotto (1,600 yen). The kamameshi (rice cooked in an iron pot; 1,500 yen) can be ordered for two or more.
The shellfish omakase course is available in 7 courses for 7,000 yen and 8 courses for 9,000 yen. Dinner reservations are recommended.
